Conference, a free HIV/AIDS testing
program was held in churches throughout
Baton Rouge on Aug.
29.
Part of an ecumenical initiative, this pilot event is the
first in a series of programs aimed at
bringing awareness to the HIV/AIDS
problem in Louisiana.
“Baton Rouge is ranked third in the
nation for new cases and New Orleans is
second.
Through this pilot, we were able
to offer free HIV/AIDS testing to the
public as well as offering counseling and
educational materials,” said Margaret
Johnson, member of the Conference
Vision Team.
One of the four areas of ministry
focus for The United Methodist Church,
the Global Health Initiative aims to eliminate diseases of poverty such as malaria,
HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.
